Wellferon is the form of interferon being used in this trial, which is a "natural" alpha interferon containing at least 16 variants of the interferon molecule.

Wellferon is marketed as a treatment for hairy cell leukemia and chronic active hepatitis B in a number of countries.

Wellferon is approved in some European countries, where it is used for treating hepatitis B.

It is concluded that Wellferon is highly effective in this disease.

Since that time, the Wellcome laboratories have become part of Glaxo Smith Kline, and Wellferon is no longer made.
